New year, new journey, the big picture

This year is going to be awesome. After more than 20 years I will finally reach my destination. At least hopefully.

I worked as hard as I could to create worlds, enjoyable hours of gaming. But as life goes it is getting harder and harder to produce good gaming experiences with a steady increase in quality. Not in spare time with a full time job, a wife and two kids. My latest game "AnShi" (Windows PC, Nintendo Switch) sets the bar very high for me. A very ambitious project with a lot content and challenges. It took me 3 years to create it. Just me and Devel Sullivan, an incredible composer. And the last months were somewhat rough. But giving up was never an option.

It was all possible thanks to my super supportive wife. She knows my dedication, my passion for making games, how much I love it.

Therefore we decided to move forward, quitting my job and getting into full time game development later this year.

ArtStation for me was always only for artists and as a programmer I always thought this would be no place for me. But I improved myself over the last 6 years on the art side and now I think it is the right time to get into this next challenge and improving even more. Software engineer at heart I also love art creation. Seeing a world growing and filling up with life has a different level of satisfaction which I don't want to miss anymore.

It also creates a very deep understanding on what an artist needs, challenges and the daily life. Working together with programmers, standards, solutions, conventions and best practices.

I find myself in both worlds.
For example: Creating the model of an alien creature, rig it and at the same time writing a more or less complex Python script to live stream its mocap data into Blender.

So this year is all about this big goal, this big journey. I want to find myself in a creative, supportive and exciting environment. Where I can find a place to thrive and hopefully give back the same to the people around me. Growing together and creating amazing games. That is it, this will be my 2021.

I can't wait to see how it goes and which challenges we have to master as family and team.

Stay safe and be well! Happy new year!
